The Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen the competitiveness of the national textile and textile product (TPT) industry amid increasingly complex global dynamics. One strategic effort is the Indo Intertex – Inatex 2026 exhibition, an important event for industry players to expand business networks, investment and technology adoption.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said Indonesia's economic fundamentals remain intact, with growth reaching 5.11% in 2025. “The manufacturing sector even recorded growth of 5.30%, outpacing national economic growth for the first time in the last 14 years,” he said at the opening of the Indo Intertex – Inatex 2026 exhibition in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4).
The Minister of Industry also stressed that the manufacturing sector contributes 19.07% of national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and dominates exports, accounting for 84.89% of total national export value. The sector also employs 20.31 million people, showing its strategic role in the national economy.
Amid global challenges, manufacturing performance remains resilient. This is reflected in the Industry Confidence Index (IKI) for March 2026, which stood at 51.86, still in the expansion phase.
Specifically for the TPT industry, 2025 saw growth of 3.55% (year-on-year), with exports reaching USD 12.08 billion and a surplus of USD 3.45 billion, mainly contributed by apparel exports.
Meanwhile, in terms of investment, the TPT industry sector attracted investment of IDR 20.23 trillion and employed 3.96 million people, or around 19.48% of the total workforce in the manufacturing sector.
“From this performance, the TPT industry also reflects investors' continued confidence to bring their investment to Indonesia amid the current global geo-economic and geopolitical uncertainty,” he said.
However, the Minister of Industry acknowledged that the TPT industry still faces a number of challenges, such as rising global raw material prices, supply chain disruptions and the dynamics of international market demand. Strong synergy between government, associations and businesses is therefore needed to formulate appropriate and measured anticipatory steps.
“The government continues to monitor developments in the global situation, including the dynamics of international trade, changes in supply chain structures and the policies of trading partner countries,” the Minister of Industry said.
In his view, Indo Intertex – Inatex 2026 is highly strategic because it also serves as a business matching platform that brings together national and international industry players while opening opportunities for partnership and investment.
“This exhibition is not only a showcase for innovation, but also a forum for collaboration, which in the government's view is a positive thing. Beyond that, this exhibition can show the public, both at home and globally, a platform that fosters optimism that the TPT industry is still a sunrise sector,” he added.
Furthermore, the government through Kemenperin is committed to maintaining and strengthening the growth of the TPT industry through strategic policies, including maintaining and expanding access to domestic and export markets, and overseeing the provision of fiscal and non-fiscal facilities to increase productivity, efficiency and industrial transformation from upstream to downstream.
In line with this policy direction, the steps ahead focus on strengthening industrial fundamentals by accelerating the adoption of Industry 4.0 technology, applying sustainability principles, and developing high value-added products that meet global standards and expand export markets.
In the global context, shifts in supply chains due to geopolitical dynamics and the diversification of production bases are opening opportunities for investment relocation and strategic partnerships. This trend is also reinforced by growing demand for sustainable textile products.
The Minister of Industry also stressed the importance of maintaining optimism amid global uncertainty. “We believe the geopolitical conditions and market uncertainty will not last long. That is why optimism is important. Industry players who can survive and stay resilient will recover faster and take off when the situation returns to normal,” he stressed.
This momentum needs to be optimally used by strengthening international trade cooperation to strengthen national industry's position in global supply chains. “The government will continue to be present as a strategic partner for national TPT industry players in facing challenges while seizing existing opportunities,” he concluded.
