BBI LagawiFest: Real Government Support to Promote Lampung's Leading Artisans

The government consistently campaigns for buying and using domestic products to boost domestic industrial growth. The campaign is part of the National Proud of Made in Indonesia Movement (Gernas BBI), driven by the spirit of energizing small and medium industry players through technology and business digitalization. Through Gernas BBI, SMIs can grow their businesses, increase sales and reach wider markets.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B. Panjaitan expressed appreciation for the Lampung National Proud of Made in Indonesia Movement (Gernas BBI).

“I greatly appreciate the Minister of Industry for holding Gernas BBI on Tegal Mas Island, Lampung,” Coordinating Minister Luhut said at the Harvesting BBI Lagawi Fest 2022 in Lampung on Thursday (23/6).

At the Gernas BBI event, Coordinating Minister Luhut also visited several Lampung MSME booths. He reminded everyone to prioritize domestic products and that Indonesians should be proud of them.

“I see that all Lampung MSME products are very good and of high quality; let's not import goods or food that we can produce domestically,” Coordinating Minister Luhut said.

He also reminded that trade and industry, including MSMEs, must be managed to support Indonesia's economic growth. “We will regulate trade and industry to prioritize domestic products, especially as our economic growth is very good and still under control,” he stressed.

Throughout 2022, the government has scheduled Gernas BBI campaigns in 12 provinces. As one campaign manager, the Ministry of Industry held Gernas BBI in Lampung Province themed Lagawi Fest, Lampung Bangga Wirausaha Industri (Lampung Proud of Industrial Entrepreneurs), with the tagline Satu Bumi Juta Karya (One Land, a Million Works). Lagawi Fest opened on 17 March, coinciding with Lampung Province's 58th anniversary.

“The three main goals of the Gernas BBI #LagawiFest program are to increase the number of small and medium industries onboarding, to mentor industrial entrepreneurs, and to increase SMIs' sales,” Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in his report at the BBI Lagawi Fest 2022 Harvesting.

The wealth and competitiveness of Lampung's manufacturing make the province known as Sai Bumi Ruwa Jurai a fitting host for Gernas BBI 2022. In 2021, Lampung's manufacturing sector grew 4.57% and contributed 19.65%, the second-largest contributor to the province's GRDP. Of 192,234 SMEs in Lampung, 95,401 are small and medium industries, dominated by food and beverage businesses.

The Minister said that to support Gernas BBI's goal of bringing 30 million Indonesian Artisans (MSMEs/SMIs) onboard on marketplaces by 2023, the Ministry of Industry consistently empowers SMIs to master e-business technology through the e-Smart IKM Program.

“Kemenperin's e-Smart IKM program has been running since 2017 and has so far trained 22,515 small and medium industry players across Indonesia,” the Minister said.

Through esmartikm.id, Kemenperin also recruited Lampung SMIs on 27 February – 6 March 2022, attracting 478 SMI registrants. The Directorate General of IKMA team, together with Bank Indonesia Lampung, the Lampung Provincial Dekranasda and the Lampung Provincial Industry and Trade Office, then held a curation on 13–14 March 2022 to select 30 SMIs eligible for intensive mentoring.

The intensive mentoring includes digital mentoring and mentoring to improve quality and competitiveness, facilitation (HACCP, SKKNI, TKDN, test reports, packaging design and branding), and publicity through various media. The 30 selected #LagawiFest SMIs were also supported with an offline exhibition on 1–6 June 2022 at Mall Kota Kasablanka Jakarta, generating total sales of IDR 210.9 million over 5 days.

During the intensive mentoring, total sales of the 30 SMIs were monitored online (marketplace landing pages, Telkom's virtual expo and the website www.esmartikm.id) and offline by Kemenperin, and from 20 March to 17 June 2022 total sales of the 30 SMIs reached IDR 5.23 billion.

Based on the assessment criteria, five champion SMIs were named at the BBI Lagawi Fest Harvesting event, entitled to take part in the BBI Award 2022. The five champion SMIs are Lampung Ethnica, Pisang Shamiya, Littlemonq, Rafins Snack and Askha Jaya.

“This is the result of the SMIs that, since the kick-off, received various digital and physical mentoring and media support. We invite everyone to be proud of and buy domestic products, especially the Lampung products exhibited today,” the Minister said.

At the BBI Lagawi Fest Harvesting event, the East Lampung Black Pepper Export Village was also inaugurated, an implementation of cooperation between Kemenperin's Directorate General of IKMA and the Indonesia Eximbank (LPEI) to build capacity, expand market access and increase sustainable SMI exports. Development for the village includes strengthening management and institutions, technical assistance on production and food safety systems, equipment and production facilities, and market access assistance.

Lampung Governor Arinal Djunaidi said he fully supports Kemenperin's role in training businesses in Lampung Province and promoting local products from Lampung.

“This is in line with the Lampung Provincial Government's goal of introducing various quality local products with great potential to be known and used by all Indonesians. We also hope this initiative can accelerate economic growth in Lampung Province to realize a prosperous Lampung,” the Lampung Governor said.
