The Ministry of Industry is focused on accelerating the transformation of the national manufacturing sector toward a competitive, efficient and sustainable industry by applying green industry principles. This step is an important part of efforts to build an increasingly resilient national industrial structure that can also respond to the challenges of climate change, resource constraints and the dynamics of global trade.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that applying green industry is not merely about meeting environmental requirements, but is also a long-term business and investment strategy to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of national industry.
“The transformation toward green industry is a necessity. Industries that can use resources more efficiently, reduce emissions and waste, and apply sustainable production processes will become increasingly competitive. That is why we must treat the application of green industry as an investment to safeguard the long-term sustainability of national industry,” the Minister of Industry said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (28/8).
According to Agus, developments in the global market increasingly place sustainability as an important factor in trade and investment. National industry therefore needs to keep improving its readiness to meet these demands while seizing the market opportunities that are increasingly open to products made through sustainable production processes.
“We want Indonesian industry to be competitive not only in price and quality, but also to excel in sustainability. With green industry, we can increase production efficiency while strengthening the position of Indonesian manufactured products in global supply chains,” he said.
As one form of the government's appreciation for the business community's commitment to applying green industry principles, the Ministry of Industry is once again holding the 2026 Green Industry Awards. The program recognizes industrial companies that have carried out production practices prioritizing the efficient and effective use of resources in a sustainable way.
Since it was first held in 2010 through 2025, the Green Industry Awards have recognized more than 1,100 industrial companies from various manufacturing sectors judged to have successfully applied green industry principles.
“We appreciate the companies that have shown commitment and made real investments to run increasingly efficient and environmentally friendly production processes. We hope these good practices will be applied ever more widely so that the green industry transformation takes place on a massive scale across all industrial sectors,” the Minister of Industry said.
Three award categories
Head of the Agency for Industrial Standardization and Service Policy (BSKJI) Emmy Suryandari explained that the 2026 Green Industry Awards are given in three categories covering industrial companies through to regional governments.
The first category is Best Performance in Green Industry Implementation, intended for industrial companies that already hold a Green Industry Certificate. The second category, Transformation Toward Green Industry, is intended for industrial companies that do not yet have a Green Industry Standard but have made transformation efforts by applying efficient and effective use of resources in their production processes.
Meanwhile, the third category is Regional Government with the Best Green Industry Implementation, awarded to regional governments that show commitment to strengthening the application of green industry through policy and institutional support.
“Through these three categories, we want to show our appreciation while expanding the ecosystem for applying green industry. The green industry transformation requires the involvement of industrial companies and the support of regional governments so that its implementation can become stronger and more evenly spread,” Emmy said.
Registration is now open
Emmy also said that registration for the 2026 Green Industry Awards has been open from 23 July to 9 September 2026 through the National Industrial Information System (SIINas). The assessment and selection of winners are then planned for September 2026.
“We invite industrial companies that meet the criteria to take this opportunity and join the 2026 Green Industry Awards. Industry participation is very important to show that Indonesia's manufacturing sector has a strong commitment to resource efficiency and sustainability,” the Head of BSKJI said.
Through the 2026 Green Industry Awards, the Ministry of Industry hopes that more and more industrial companies will integrate economic, environmental and social aspects into their business activities. Optimizing resources and taking a long-term orientation in production processes are expected to strengthen industrial resilience while increasing the competitiveness of Indonesian manufactured products in both domestic and global markets.
