The Ministry of Industry continues to work to produce new entrepreneurs in various regions who become adaptive industry players, and even to help them grow and move up a class through various business mentoring programs. One of its regular programs is mentoring for creative industry players in fashion and crafts through the
Creative Business Incubator
(CBI).
This year, the Directorate General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA), through the Fashion and Craft Industry Empowerment Center (BPIFK), in cooperation with practitioners and academics in entrepreneurship and business, has run the CBI 2025 Program to develop young entrepreneurs in the fashion and craft creative industry sector. This coaching
program is the second stage of mentoring after the classroom business incubator mentoring held last year.
“Research shows that businesses are more likely to survive and grow if they receive mentoring. Through this CBI coaching
, 10 selected SMIs will each be accompanied by a mentor who will help address the problems they face in developing their businesses so that they can move up a class,” the Director General of IKMA at Kemenperin, Reni Yanita, said in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday (18/5).
Research conducted by Ciputra University shows that 74.03 percent of businesses survive and grow after being mentored. According to the research, the right mentoring can accelerate growth, reduce the risk of failure and encourage more sustainable businesses.
Therefore, according to Reni, this entrepreneurship mentoring cooperation is an important program for increasing the capabilities and competitiveness of businesses. Moreover, year after year, the CBI Coaching Program has successfully helped its alumni overcome problems and grow their businesses.
Reni added that synergy and collaboration in business mentoring for industry players and young entrepreneurs are also expected to strengthen the contribution of the national manufacturing industry. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia's non-oil and gas processing industry grew by 4.31 percent in the first quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, the contribution of the non-oil and gas processing industry to GDP also increased, reaching 17.50 percent in that quarter.
“The coaching
program is the implementation of the business development plans drawn up in the classroom stage (the first year of the CBI program). The 2025 Coaching
Program will run for about five months, with structured mentoring targets,” Reni explained.
The 10 participants selected for the 2025 CBI Coaching
are Delova Wardro, Hanabira, CV. Amod Bali, Wira’s Silver Bali, PT Karya Rappo Indonesia, Kalasiris, JB Etnnic, Astraea Leather Craft and Ulur Wiji. “We hope they can follow in the footsteps of successful CBI alumni who have increased their production capacity, raised turnover and moved up from micro to small scale or from small to medium scale,” Reni said.
This is also driven by stronger entrepreneurship mentoring, which will boost innovation and creativity to create jobs and achieve sustainable economic growth.
Entrepreneurship ratio
The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2023 report states that Indonesia's entrepreneurship ratio is 21.6 percent, higher than other ASEAN countries such as Thailand (17.8%), Malaysia (13.4%) and Vietnam (15.2%). However, the report also notes that this high figure is not accompanied by high added value and productivity.
“This is therefore a challenge for all of us, especially government, academia and the private sector, to work together to create a better entrepreneurship ecosystem that helps young entrepreneurs move up a class, so that products have more added value, turnover increases and more jobs are created,” the Director General of IKMA stressed.
The Head of the Fashion and Craft Industry Empowerment Center (BPIFK), Dickie Sulistya, said that although the selected participants are still young, they already have very good business potential. “This can be seen from the participants' turnover in 2024, ranging from hundreds of millions to billions of rupiah, and from turnover growth in the first quarter of 2025, which also shows business consistency,” he explained.
BPIFK has also recorded the participants' turnover growth targets and expectations for the coaching, so that the material delivered matches their needs. “Of course, this potential shows the participants' commitment and willingness to learn, develop their businesses and have an increasingly positive impact on the community's economy,” he added.
SMI alumni of the CBI Coaching
Program that have won awards at events and taken part in international exhibitions include Rubycraft, Smarbatik and Lumos. The Rubycraft brand from Yogyakarta was selected for the display
Best Pitch at Home in Style Hong Kong 2025, and is collaborating with IPB University (Institut Pertanian Bogor) on developing palm-based products to be exhibited in Japan this year. Rubycraft has also become a supplier
to Japan's largest retail store, Tri Koins, for home décor.
Meanwhile, Smarbatik won the Majalah Sawit Indonesia Award for Marketing of Palm Derivative Products and took part in the Innovation Festival Suzhou China in 2024. And Lumos has taken part in Trainer Color Theory
and
Fashion Style for the Shiseido Group.
